If Adobe Design Creative Suite package, what did Adobe use to design that thing?

I'm confused when it comes to all things Graphic Design. What was the leading standard in the Adobe CS package? Was there any? I would love to know how they designed the thing before they even made the Adobe Creative Suite reality.

In essence as the eighties began industry-standard photo was state machinery and rubber cement – most designs were done at paste-ups – boards with columns of text and images pictures – hand-drawn or photographic – are bonded together at the blue guidelines photo state machine does not withdraw. As the eighties ended you had Adobe Photoshop and PageMaker, QuarkXpress and a pair of Macromedia products for graphics. Autodesk was already out there, but they have always been a bit more specialized audience than designers. QuarkXpress has not been updated as regularly as Adobe products – but it is still out there. Otherwise, Adobe has largely field to itself – Flash uses a lot of technology they purchase from Macromedia. Although this is not always a good thing – I despise Illustrator, always has, and since the acquisition of Macromedia Freehand brought them, they have let languish, and as I preferred my love in Open Source Inkscape, which are quite good – they are very different from what is happening in Redmond, because it was proprietary standards in printing and graphic arts industry since they began, as they always have (unlike a certain OS-maker who likes to complain about theft of intellectual property) has been very good for licenses. Economics, in other words, Adobe has given a monopoly position and access to all the technology in almost all the players when the use of computers to graphics desktops began. It's been a player from the beginning, it is also a successor company to many of the other players, and Creative Suite are simply a collection of what were already industry standards (mostly).
